Airbnb has become a popular option for millennial vacationers looking for an alternate option to mainstream hotels when traveling. Laguna Beach whose reputation as a progressive, artistic and accepting city has took action to limit the amount of short term rentals in their city.
Ordinance No. 1617 has restricted the number of units allowed in the City of Laguna Beach amending the original zones and restricting these short-term rentals to specific commercial locations in the city. Short-term rentals have taken heat as companies such as Airbnb have become more popular in recent years.
By reducing the amount of available rental units on the market this law is giving the power to the hotels in Laguna Beach to control vacation pricing. Traditionally, The City of Laguna Beach has been a city that frowns upon large commercial businesses moving into their city, but this ordinance shows a change in the priorities of the City Council.
Since the supply of potential rental units is expected to decrease we recommend you book that vacation to Laguna Beach sooner rather than later. On the flip side if you were looking for a place to rent in Laguna Beach you should probably wait 30 days when this law takes effect and all the individuals that were previously put there houses up for short-term rentals are going to be looking to lease those spaces out long term in order to make up for the lost income they are about to face.
